As a continuation off of the original work and design seen here. This was a further design exploration in knit, color, and form as a tool to drive seasonal newness in the converse sustainability line.
Looking forward into future seasons, I moved onto color and graphic exploration in order to squeeze the maximum color potential out of the limitations of our manufacturers. A variation in production facilities offered machines with a different number of usable feeders and therefore color options — one offered 5 and one had 3. In order to create consistency across the line we settled on three, while also receiving feedback that three color executions were too risky for our consumer. I then experimented within this restriction, eventually landing on an interesting result to get a “third” color via a twisted/mélange effect while using only two yarn colors.
After honing in on color execution - I pitched a new upper pattern with both fall and holiday in mind. My original pattern had a medial lateral variation in color blocking including the tongue which needed to be dialed back for a more digestible aesthetic. The lines were intended to riff off of the classic stitch lines on a Chuck 70, to the heritage style while also adding an interesting visual cue and variation in our utilization of a modern technology.
